Fort Collins | Spatial Inequality

Fort Collins, Colorado struggles to bridge division lines between segmented populations.  The community has an isolated Latino and agriculture community in the north, continuous tension between the city and a transient homeless population, and unprecedented population growth encroaching on historic neighborhoods, driving away poorer populations, and stressing the water resources in Northern Colorado.  The project depicts the spatial inequality in the physical environment throughout the community.

Divided by Light

A flourishing Old Town depicts a burst of opportunity for a young and vibrant generation, yet just to the north, businesses rot in vacant structures.  A beacon of light shines over a representation of the active lifestyle the community embraces, although casting a shadow to the north where misfortune and desperation remains.

Hidden

When “love thy neighbor as yourself” no longer applies walls are built; worlds are erased from view.  The physical barriers highlight a difference in lifestyle, alter expectations, and limit the potential to develop true community.

Drive-By

There are moments during a daily commute where the all-too-familiar scenery passes by without a second thought.  The hum of the radio drowns out the lives of the people who reside in these forgetful in-betweens.
